JULY, 2004
Dear Classmate:
It’s hard to believe that our 50 th Class Reunion was eight months ago! Didn’t we have a great time? Those of you who were unable to attend – YOU WERE MISSED! I know many, including myself, are still talking about it. On Monday following the reunion about 28 of us boarded the Carnival cruise ship for 4 days to Catalina Island and to Ensenada . We had a relaxing trip with only one unfortunate situation –
our classmate, BEVERLY (DAVISSON) VAN FRANK had to disembark on Catalina Island due to a medical situation. Our captain wanted to make sure she disembarked on American soil so it was suggested that she go to the hospital in Avalon. From there she was sent to the mainland by helicopter. She spent a few days in the hospital and was released. I spoke to her after we had been home a few weeks from the trip and she was doing much better. She was to have knee surgery soon after the first of the year and that would relieve some stress on her heart. I just spoke to her today, June 26, and she is still waiting for the knee replacement surgery! She is full of hope and optimism that the surgery will be soon! We hope so, too!
our classmate, JERRY HAGY, in an email from his wife, JoAn, dated
April 24, 2004 , advised “Jerry collapsed on the tennis court, and was life flighted to Reno where he underwent open heart surgery to repair a congenital aortic heart valve problem on the 8 th. He is doing just fine now although the altitude here in Lake Tahoe is bothering him at night. He has to have oxygen but that will not last long.” A
follow-up email I received June 19 th from JoAn “Jerry is back to his old self, playing old man doubles tennis! The golf is on hold as it will be three months this July 8 th and the breast bone will be completely healed. It wasn’t the altitude but a congenital heart valve problem and once that was corrected he is better than ever.”
Their new email address is: twojsret@sbcglobal.net.
our classmate, DAVE MC ANERN, through an email dated March 10, advised that he had prostate cancer and would have surgery on April 28 at Kaiser Fontana Hospital . We are happy to report that on May 11, an email from Dave advises that “the surgery went well on April 28 th. Got to come home that Friday, April 30 th. This week, I had the staples removed……….Carol and I took a walk around the block today. Everything went well. I can’t drive for a couple of more weeks & will see the doctor in 3 months. The day after we got home, the hot water heater went out & when we went to start the diesel truck….it wouldn’t start. ……just what we didn’t need!” A recent email from Dave advises he is doing fine! We are all glad to hear that!
our classmate, RICHARD DAVIS, emailed on June 23, 2004 , that his
wife, ILSE, is in the hospital in Anchorage , AK . They flew from Juneau to Anchorage on June 22 (Richard’s 70 th
birthday). “Dr. found a blockage in the artery on the back side of her heart----more testing on Wed. that came out
OK. Thursday Dr. will go back in and perform an angioplasty to open up the artery and place a wire stent in there to keep it open. All proceeding well and if all continues that way we should fly home to Juneau Friday evening…”.
An “email from Rick on June 28 th advises they are back home in Juneau ; the operation was a success and Ilse is looking “good”.
our classmate, JOHN NORTHUP, had colon surgery in February,
and in a conversation with him today, June 30, he has recovered completely and feeling great!
TO ALL OF YOU – GOOD HEALTH AND GOD’S BLESSINGS!
WEDDING BELLS HAVE CHIMED for….

in a civil ceremony Dec. 19, 2003 and then a Church Wedding on Valentine’s Day with a weeklong honeymoon in
Big Bear Lake , and
Our classmate, JUNE BRINKLEY ADAMS , became Mrs. Joseph William Holley in November, 2003;

Gretchen Given Guidi telling us she had a wonderful time at the reunion, especially since the last one she attended was the 20 th AND her 2003 Christmas letter penned in February 2004 showed her in a recent photo wearing her senior year sweater. YIKES! I haven’t seen my sweater since June, ’53! We enjoyed the photos of her family and pets…….. Those of you who ordered the reunion video from Raines Video Productions, we hope you enjoyed it. We thought Kevin did a good job getting through the evening with all of us. We have heard that some of the videos are blank. Please contact Raines for a replacement.
