SURPRISE, FROM OUT OF ALASKA

My God, what does one say after forty seven years? But, Hello everyone! I certainly want to thank you for your letter  newsletters, and your resent Email. I have often in the past year tried to access you web page, how ever none of the search engines have been able to locate it or stated page unavailable, or etc. etc........ Then I received your Email with the enclosed link, and BAM! there it was. To tell the truth I was really excited. The three Rosters were enjoyable and also a bit sobering. I had know idea so many would be missing or deceased. Wow. Any way I’m still alive and well, and doing fantastic. Oh ya, and off your missing list.

For your minor information Juneau, the Capital of Alaska. has no roads in or out. Only by Ship or Plane and for that; it is the most Internet wired City in the US. I know I know, big deal, but what the heck we like it.  Well, for your web page. How does one put an extra ordinary exciting 47 years in a paragraph???

OK, just the boring fax.    Remember KISS...Keep It Simple Stupid!

I am so fortunate, I have had one of the most blessed lives.
I married a lovely German girl in Nov. 54. Ilse Frieda Gieger (& still married to her), and we have 3 children, and 4 grandchildren. I speak 3 dialects of German and some French . We travel to Europe ever couple of years. I have lived in Texas, New York City, Wiesbaden, Frankfort, Munich Germany, San Bernardino, Pomona, Anaheim, Downey, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, and Juneau, Alaska. Whew! My wife & I have been the owner & CEO of  Rick’s Camera of  Downey , Big Apple Photo Express, Espresso Express, Alaskan Varieties Coffee & Tea Room, and now in retirement I’m “Pops the Mocha Dude” still busy  & haven Fun.  I was an accountant in the military in Germany for years where I studied photography, art & art history. Back in the US continued  studying commercial illustration , photography & psychology. I have my master papers and certification in all forms of still photography. A photographic teacher & lecturer through out southern California. Teacher & writer of the first operating systems & manuals for the OneHourPhoto Systems in the US. Then when Photoexperts were needed in Alaska We thought we would fly up for 6 months, get their systems on line and then go back to Ca. Never realizing how wonderful it is here. Well it’s been 20 years now, our grown kids followed us up here & the grandkids are here. Incredible beauty and more successful business than you can shake a whales tail at. I’m currently President of the Mountain View Senior Council and stay quite active in the local business community, when I’m not out on the boat.

Enough already! I know I’ve left out a thousand things & organizations but you get the Idea. Thank you again for asking. Hope this helps the web page. Will send picture soon.

You know, It would  really be fun if someone answers this letter.  I’ll send it both Email and hard copy.

Love to you all,

Your World traveler and entrepreneur.

Hi to all the classmates who attended the picnic yesterday.  We had a great time and are looking forward to the great pictures you all took.  Unfortunately we forgot our camera!

Hi Steve Pillar!

How nice of you to give an update re: pictures of the reunion. I wanted
so much to make it this year, but once again, could not fit it into my
schedule. It would be fun for others to put in their observations also.
Names were recognized and the 'ole yearning to see classmates of yesteryear
were very prominent feelings. Thanks for sending your communication to all of us.

Margie Hawley, Ellsworth

Really enjoyed the pictures. Thank you. Looking forward for our 50th
class reunion.

Steve, (I wish I could remember you, looked you up in the year book, but could not find you)
I have to tell you.......this afternoon after getting your mail, I went to the picnic picture site,
it was GREAT. All that have helped to get those pictures together on the site have done a wonderful job.

Since I did not go, it was like being there after seeing people that I went to school with.
Good luck to you and those who put it together.

Annette (DiPasquale) Gabel

MAY YOUR DAY BE A HAPPY ONE.

Five stars for your picture taking at the picnic. You did very good. Just
like you knew what you were doing <Grin> A job well done and very well
organized.

The picnic turned out very well. I hope everyone had a good time.
Thanks also to all of those, who organized the picnic.
Sunshine and Rainbows to all,

Saturday was a great day! The weather cooperated and we had a great turnout! We welcomed the SBHS classes of '52 and '54 for joining the Class of '53. Please mark your calendar for next year and we'll do it again. I want to thank Marilyn Jones Humphrey and Dave Humphrey, Diana Pomeroy Moore, Homer Wilson and Steve Pillar for your help. And I especially want to thank Steve for his contribution to our class in setting up this web site. We would not have any of this if it weren't for Steve and I personally want to thank you for "an outstanding job". And a personal thanks to all my classmates - you are the greatest !! All of us are very fortunate to be a part of a class who pulls together to get the job done and next February we'll start our plans for our 50th in 2003. Happy Holidays!

Warmest regards,
Adrienne Ables Philpott

Steve:
Thanks so much for the email and pictures of the picnic!  They were
outstanding and I'm sorry to have missed the fun.
My husband passed away on 9/18 and there were just too many things going on
in my life to think about another
commitment, however, it was good to see some familiar faces in the pictures.
I'm in hopes to be able to attend future
functions.  I looked for a shot of you, but you must have been "camera shy"
that day, as they used to say.

Thank you also for emailing my brother, Bob, regarding upcoming events for
'52, '53 and '54.  I don't believe he's ever come
to a reunion of his '54 class.

For some reason I couldn't seem to print all the pictures.  Could only get a
page or two to pop out -- wanted all 10 pages so
I could share with some SBHS friends who'll be getting together in a couple
of weeks, Ann Warren Johnson, Nancy Johnson Meyer,
Marlene Becker Goldblum and Joellen Johnston Forsmo.    We have 5.0 and I've
got a HP LaserJet 5 printer, so I don't know what the hang-up is.  If you've
got a suggestion, pass it on.  Otherwise don't sweat the small stuff.

Thanks again!

Steve,
Thanks for the pictures!   I haven't seen anyone from the class of ' 53 for a
very long time.   It's good to know that there are others who have less hair
and more waistline than we did in the Fifties!     Yes, it was worth waiting
for the download.

SubJ:                Millennium Reunion Picnic October 21, 2000
Date:                October 30, 2000

Steve, the pictures turned out fabulous as did the picnic.  This year’s picnic was wonderful seeing so many Classmates (as was last year). With the Class of 1952,1953 and 1954 all together we had a nice crowd. It was a thrill  seeing one of my Junior Senior Prom dates from the Class of 1954 for the first time since High School.

I was glad to hear that we will have another Reunion Picnic next year.  Sylvan Park in Redlands is an excellent place for our class to have a picnic as it is centrally located and can accommodate larger groups.  Also it is an attractive park with a relaxed atmosphere, plus you can communicate openly and re-kindle friendships from the past. It seems like there is a lot of interest by Classmates for our 50th Reunion in the year 2003. The Web Site is sparking our enthusiasm. Thanks a million.

For those that were not able to attend this year, I hope you can all make it next year as the renewal of friendships and camaraderie was well worth the time and effort

Hi, Steve

Sorry that I missed the picnic, our extended eastern trip turned out to be more extended than we thought!  I really enjoyed the pictures and especially seeing someone I haven't heard from in ages.  If Margaret Randig-Osborne reads this, I hope she will contact me.  Brother Jim Hargrove asked about her last week so will tell him to check out your website.  (He moved south so did not graduate from SBHS.)  Keep us posted if another picnic is scheduled for next October.  Thanks again for the great photos!

Hey the picnic pictures were great. Sorry we missed it, but we were in
Virginia and Tennessee looking at the turning leaves (which were beautiful)
and the Jack Daniel's Bar B Que. Plan to be at the next one.

Hi Steve...

Thanks for the photos -- it was fun seeing everyone having such a good time.
(Incidentally, they downloaded VERY quickly -- however, I am attached to
cable so that DOES make a difference).  I appreciate the time and effort that
you, Adrienne and the rest of the Reunion committee have given to increasing
our ability to communicate with each other.  We HAVE to be the BEST class ever!!

Homer's newsletter came this evening, and drew me to the web site like a
magnet! Great photos of he two picnics. I only wish that I had been to
at least one of them. Sad to hear of the passing of two of my High
School friends.
