Strolling down Memory Lane.........
What are your memories of 1953? We would like to know, jot your thoughts down, send them to us and we'll publish them on our website and some in our next newsletter. Following are some events to help "jog your memory".
Do you remember what happened in March of 1953? First, we had snow on our campus with lots of snowball fights. Then our gymnasium caught on fire and burned to the ground. Most of the guys lost all of their gym clothes, etc. that was in the gym lockers. The girl's moved into the boy's brand new gym building that included urinals and everything for boys (do you have any funny stories about these events?).
Do you remember?????????
Dwight D. Eisenhower was President, a loaf of bread was 16 cents and who could forget the song: "Doggie in the Window"? The minimum wage was 75 cents an hour, William Holden starred in "Stalag 17" and Southern Cal beat Wisconsin 7-0 in the Rose Bowl. The Yankees won their fifth World Series in a row against the Dodgers 4-3 in the sixth game the average annual income was $4,233 and a new car cost $2635.00. Do you remember the tornados that killed 110 in Michigan/Ohio and 100 in Worcester Massachusetts?? Bet you didn't know that Elvis Presley graduated the same year! Tennis champ Bill Tilden died on June 5th, 1953 at the age of 60. Anchorage Alaska recorded an 86º record temperature on June 25th. On June 17th Supreme court Justice William O. Douglas stayed the executions of Spies Julius & Ethel Rosenberg scheduled for the next day, their 14th anniversary. "Stranger in Paradise" was a biggie and a gallon of milk cost 23 cents a gallon (a gallon of gas cost 29 cents a gallon). What do you remember about 1953? Please let us know!
